The Problem

The ceramics industry had moved to digital granilla effects - a textured, premium surface finish that was fast becoming the market standard. Achieving it required glue ink, and glue ink required a dedicated printer head. Exotica had none available. Every channel was occupied - color ink, reactive ink, dual luster tank... Leading ink companies were approached and walked away. The only visible path forward was buying new machinery, which meant high cost, long setup time, and still catching a trend that was already moving.
02. INTERVENTION

The Strategic Intervention

Instead of looking for new equipment, Aakriti studied what was already running inside the machine. Reactive and luster inks were tested for how they naturally interact with granilla particles on a fired surface. What came out was unexpected - luster ink had bonding properties strong enough to hold granilla without any glue at all. Trials were designed using the existing printer setup with zero new hardware. Before full production rollout, unfired tiles were stress tested under simulated road transport conditions to validate real world bonding strength.

03. IMPACT

The Result

Granilla effect was achieved without adding a single new printer head or spending on new machinery. Luster ink outperformed glue ink on bonding strength and delivered a cleaner finish. The same setup also produced two distinct surface finishes - a dual-finish capability the conventional glue ink method never offered. Exotica entered the granilla segment ahead of competitors, the solution was replicated across multiple plants, and the outcome surprised leading ink and printer companies who had no answer for how it was done.
